Description
The Outstanding Achievement in Thermoelectrics Award is a prestigious award. First initiated in 2011, it recognizes lifelong contributions to the field of thermoelectrics. The award not only includes a cash prize but also grants honorary membership in the International Thermoelectric Society (ITS). Each year, the award recipient is invited to deliver an honorary lecture, typically at the ICT Meeting.
2025 Call
The International Thermoelectric Society announces the 2025 ITS Outstanding Achievement in Thermoelectrics Award to recognize outstanding lifelong achievements in scholarship and service to the thermoelectric community. The Award is co-sponsored by the Texas Center for Superconductivity at The University of Houston (TcSUH) and Komatsu Ltd.
The award carries a cash prize of seven thousand US dollars (7,000 USD), honorary membership in the ITS, a Descriptive Certificate and a trophy. The face value of the cash prize has been increased, and the recipient can also utilize it to support the travel to the ICT Meeting.
The Award shall normally be awarded to a single recipient. In cases where there are multiple individuals in a single nomination, the award selection committee submits justification to the ITS Board of Directors in case such nomination will be awarded.
The Award will be presented at the Banquet of the 41th International Conference on Thermoelectrics (ICT2025), in Sendai, Japan.
Eligibility
Distinguished member of the scientific or engineering community whose contributions in theoretical, experimental, synthetic or device research in the field of thermoelectrics are publicly available. Current members of the ITS board of directors are not eligible.
Criteria for Selection
The winner will be chosen from among the nominees by a selection panel who will consider the following items:
- Journal articles, books, conference proceedings, patents, and other publicly available promotion of their work.
- Time span and continuity of research on thermoelectrics.
- Impact on the thermoelectric community, as evidenced by international collaborations and recognition, awards, and participation in major thermoelectric research projects.
- Service to the thermoelectric community, including frequent attendance at International Conferences on Thermoelectrics.
- Letter(s) of recommendation for the award.
- Other recognition.
- In the case of multiple nomination – sustained, collaborative, and substantially equal contribution of each nominee to the same accomplishments.
Selection Panel
The 2025 Outstanding Achievement in Thermoelectrics Award Committee appointed by the ITS Board of Directors will form a Selection Panel. The Selection Panel will review the Award nominations. On base of the opinion of the Selection Panel, the Award Committee will make a recommendation, which must be approved by the ITS Board of Directors.

Description
The International Thermoelectric Society (ITS) announces the 2025 ITS Young Investigator Award for Excellence in Research in Thermoelectrics by a young investigator who holds a researcher/engineer position in academia, industry, government lab or scientific institute (e.g. The Max Planck Institute). This award is to be given to a young researcher who has exhibited a record of excellent original work and significant results in the field of thermoelectrics or thermoelectric materials. The recipient should have shown significant research in the early stages of his/her career. The work will not be judged as part of their Ph.D. thesis but based on work that occurred after their Ph.D. contributions. The selection committee will be considering only original work and contributions.
The award carries a cash prize of two thousand dollars (US$ 2,000) and a Descriptive Certificate that will be presented at the Banquet of the 40th International Conference on Thermoelectrics (ICT 2025) in Sendai, Japan.
Eligibility
The candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. Degree and be actively engaged in theoretical, experimental, synthesis or device research in the field of thermoelectrics. The candidates must be in a researcher position or employed in a stable position in industry, a government lab or scientific institute. The candidates must be within 10 years of receiving their Ph.D. as of June 30 of the year of the nomination.
The ITS Young Investigator Award is intended to be an annual award. However, in the event of the lack of applications that the ITS Board or Award Selection Committee views as meeting the expectations for this award, then no award will be given that year.
Criteria for selection
An Award Selection Panel who will consider the aforementioned eligibility criteria will choose the winner from among the applicants. Journal articles with publication dates, acceptance dates or submission dates within the 120 months preceding the April 30th cutoff date will be considered. Therefore, for the 2024 award the period of consideration is April 30, 2014 through April 30, 2024. Presentations at local, national and international meetings as well as invited seminars and colloquia in the same time period will be considered. Other awards or recognition will also be considered.
